Coaches at Monona Grove High School are creating and hosting a Female Student-Athlete Summit to be held on December 3, 2017. Organizers are looking forward to providing this opportunity for female student-athletes to come together, to embrace each other and the greater community of female athletes, to learn about composure through the mental aspect in athletics, and to foster confidence within themselves and each other.
Statistics show that younger girls have more confidence and believe that they can do and be anything; however, by the time they reach puberty, a time when girls’ confidence drastically declines, girls are dropping out of sports at twice the rate as boys, according to the Women’s Sports Foundation. By the age of 17, more than half of girls who participated as young athletes will have quit sports. Activities, such as sports, can provide life-changing opportunities and learning experiences for athletes as they develop positive characteristics and important skills. Therefore, our goal is to encourage girls and women to embrace all that we can be through participation and a sense of belonging in educationally-based sport programs.
The purpose in publishing this event is twofold: (1) to make readers aware of the work being done with female student-athletes at Monona Grove High School and (2) to provide some additional fun perks for student-athletes.
If you would like to be involved, coaches are looking for donations for three main categories: (1) door prizes, (2) food (either the food itself or a monetary donation for food), and (3) a monetary donation for a commemorative wristband for the girls. In return, donors will have their business logo printed on the note-taking booklet for the summit. Thank you so much for your consideration to partner with us and bring this meaningful opportunity to our female student-athletes.
